FOREIGN LANGUAGE DEPARMENT

PHILOSOPHY FOR THE STUDY OF FRENCH & SPANISH:

We all know that today’s world is constantly changing due to the quick development in our technology and accessibility to travel throughout the world from one day to the next.  Foreign languages, therefore, is now in more demand than ever before.  Under these global circumstances we feel that learning a foreign language is more noteworthy and essential.  Let us remember it is an absolute assurance that in today’s competitive world being bilingual or polyglot will surpass a one language speaker.  To understand, to recognize, to respect and to appreciate other cultures is just as inevitable in order to keep up in this challenging world.

GOALS -2008-2009 SCHOOL YEAR :

In helping to achieve Recognized Status, our department will focus on reading matter in English, that is cultural in nature and is aimed to involve students in the practice of context clues with a variety of questions ( including open-ended questions)  geared to involve the students in higher order thinking.  This reading matter is also intended to expand their vocabulary to a higher cognitive level.  With all the aforementioned tools, strategies and deliveries, our goal is to make our students better analytical thinkers. Furthermore we would like to prepare students to be successful in the world through the acquisition of a second or third language.
